Contact Lens Exams

Contact lenses are an excellent alternative to eyeglasses. Contacts fit right over the cornea and provide a more natural appearance. When you wear contacts, you don't need to worry about your vision being obstructed by an eyeglass frame or dirty lenses. Many athletes and active people prefer contacts because they don't need to worry about wearing sports goggles while playing sports or working out. If you are thinking about getting contacts, you will need to schedule an appointment with us at Vision City of Lake Worth for a contact lens exam.

Determine Your Prescription

Because contacts sit directly on your eyes and eyeglass sit about an inch away, your contact lens prescription will be different than your eyeglass prescription. During your contact lens exam, our eye doctor will test your vision to determine your prescription. We will also make sure that you don't have a condition that makes it hard to fit contacts. If you do, this would require you to wear special lenses to treat the condition.

Discuss Your Lifestyle

During your contact lens exam, our eye doctor will want to know a bit about your lifestyle. This will help us figure out what contact lens would be best for you. There are several types available, including:

  • Daily lenses that are changed every day
  • Weekly lenses that are changed once a week
  • Bi-weekly lenses that are changed every two weeks
  • Monthly lenses that are changed once a month
  • Extended wear lenses that can be worn for 30 days straight without needing to be removed

Contact Lens Teaching

When our eye doctor determines your prescription and has selected the best lens for you, we will give you a trial pair. Before you can wear your trial pair home, you will need to know how to insert and remove the lenses and how to care for them properly. During your contact lens exam, you will sit down with a tech who will teach you what you need to know.

Follow-up Visit

Our eye doctor will want you to return for a follow-up a week or two after the contact lens exam. During this visit, we will make sure that your contacts are comfortable and that you can see well. If you are having any issues, our eye doctor can make the necessary adjustments. If everything is fine, you will be able to order your supply of contacts during the follow-up visit.
